Cynthia had a Banjo Getaway Day on Saturday, September 24, 2011.
She did a workshop and jam session in Holyoke, MA.
I brought several of my students to attend it with me.
We all had a great time!
Then she had an evening concert at the Wisteriahurst Museum in Holyoke.
She asked me if I would like to do a song with her during the concert. I said, you bet I do!!

Fun at FIGA

I just got home from a few days in Oklahoma City. The FIGA convention was held there at the Sheraton Hotel and many functions were held at the Banjo Hall of Fame and Museum there. I got to watch a performance by Ken Aoki at the museum and also the Hall of Fame inductions this year. Congrats to my friend Greg Allan! He was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He and I had a nice jam session right after the induction ceremony there in the museum. It was a lot of fun! The museum is spectacular! Many high end banjos in perfect condition are on display. I was drooling over them! I wanted to try each one out but they are in display cases and you can’t touch them. I want to thank Johnny Baier and his crew for putting on a great event. Many concerts and workshops were held at the hotel. I was honored to have a spot in the Thursday night show and I received many compliments on my performance. Thanks also go to my buddy Paul Poirier for going with me and arranging the travel plans.

Founder of the Stone Street Strummers has passed away

Sad news, my old friend, Dick Alley has passed away this morning. He was the founder of the Stone Street Strummers, a group that he formed after he left Long Island and had played with the Parson’s Plunkers for a couple of years. He asked me to join him in this new group and my Dad and I did. He wanted a large group for banjoists of all levels so that the more experienced players could sit next to the beginners and coach them along. He felt that by doing this, the novices would have a nice chance to learn stuff and greatly improve their playing abilities. This worked for a long time in that group. He will be sadly missed. Arrangements are pending.
